Im in a hotel watching Arsenal vs Westham. Literally all I know is that the best players play in this league and that Man U is basically the Yankees.

They call it "football", but it's really soccer.

Well I know all the rules and whatnot to soccer. I just don't know anything about the Premier League.

COYG (Come on you Gunners). Gunners = Arsenal
Basically you pick a team that plays in England who you then worship for 2/3 of a year. In my case it is the Gunners. The Premier League is full of surprises and is very unpredictable thus why so many people watch it.

Those drawer pulls are mustaches. Hehe.
I don't know anything about soccer, though I do know that, back when I was in high school, all the preppy douche kids wore ManU stuff and acted like they were so European.

The consistently successful teams are pretty much Man U, Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea. Liverpool is kind of up there too but historically I dont think as often. The team I watch when I occasionally go to games is Newcastle. They're not so great, mid table mostly.

I have no interest in supporting Man U. Like I said, basically the Yankees but with the British, so even worse.

Soccer's a perfectly cromulent word for it. It's only a few mouth-breathing English trolls who think otherwise because they're ignorant of history.

"Literally all I know is that the best players play in this league"
Actually, the two or three best players in the world don't - they play in Spain, where two clubs take all the money, and so are a little richer than the richest English clubs. The PL is by far the richest league, though, and shares the money out more evenly, so even the smaller teams can afford some of the best players in the world. The strength in depth is unrivalled.
Sadly, we can't say the same about the refs.
And that wasn't the best of games, although as an Arsenal fan I'm quite happy. WHam didn't play particularly well, but nor did Arsenal. The WHam keeper had a good game, though, and the goals were nice.

Being that Manchester City and the Yankees co-own NYCFC, I'd say City is actually closer to being the Yankees.
Honestly, all of the top 6 or so teams in the Premier League are similar to the Yankees in that they pay tons of money to get the best players they can afford and then hope they will all mesh well as a team. Gone (mostly) are the days of homegrown talent that developed all the way through the youth system to the first team.
In England, who you route for is almost entirely based on where you were raised. I've found in the States, it's almost completely arbitrary. After spending some time throughout England, I learned pretty quickly what fan base I did and did not want to be affiliated with. So, start watching all the matches you can and if you really want to get nerdy, read about the history of the clubs, what their current management/style is, and make your decision from there.

English Premier League is top soccer (football) league in the UK, with popularity equivalent to NFL and NBA combined. Bottom 2 or 4 teams are relegated to a lesser league every year, while top 2 or 4 from lesser league are promoted. Makes watching the whole league interesting.
Similarly the Champions League is a combination of teams from top leagues around Europe (EPL, Bundesliga (sp?), Serie A, ect).
I'm not a close follower of the EPL, but it is great soccer to watch if you're a soccer fan.

There's a few ways to pick a team based on your other interests. If you like the NBA:

If you like Game of Thrones:

Of course, those guides are a bit outdated. The players and managers (head coaches) change teams pretty regularly.
